The Family that Frauds Together...
...does time together. And the first step happened today as Bernie Madoff's two sons saw their assets frozen, Madoff's brother Peter had already gotten the same treatment. Some of those infamous Madoff feeder fund, Fairfield caught the chill as well.

Still scot free? His better half, Ruthie Madoff.

Ok, no one actually calls her Ruthie. Except me. It's our thing.

Stanford to Clients: Chill
People do tend to get nervous when folks start talking about their investment adviser as the next Bernie Madoff. So while his returns have been peculiarly stable amid all manner of market turmoil and while at least two former employees have made it their mission to get the Feds breathing down his neck, so far eccentric Texas billionaire and wealth management magnate, R. Allen Stanford is claiming things are all good. For his clients' sake we certainly hope so. And hey, would a knight of the realms of Antigua and Barbuda lie about such a thing?

Or you can go the official route and review the complete and various testimonies via the House Committee on Financial Services Website.

And how about that Harry Markopolos? He's my new favorite.

First Off, Run from Anyone Who Claims to Be a "Life Coach"
Even if they're not outright stealing your money like one Gordon Grigg, you should probably take a pass.

Life coach? So 1990s....

Ponzi-Watch Continues
Meet George Theodule, recently sued by the SEC. If you're of Hatian extraction and living in Florida, Mr. Theodule would very much like to have you money - the fewer questions asked the better. Given the chance he'll double it for you in 90 days.

The SEC has stepped in at this point to curtail Mr. Theodule's ponzitraneurship, but not before he suckered thousands of investors and made off with around $20 million. His assets frozen, his ass in a sling, it looks like 2009 is not shaping up to be a good year for Theodule.

And the beat rolls on.

Bernie Madoff Not the Only Ponzitrpaneur Who's In Trouble With the Law
Meet Bryant Rodriguez, who promised 30% returns every two weeks to his unfortunate (and optimistic) investors. Sure he's only a small fish, having only bilked about a million from a small pool of investors, but this is the kind of fraudster that lives to fight another day and perhaps bilk your business. So mark that name. He'll be back.

Madoff Fraud a Family Affair?
That is definitely one way to keep your dirt quiet. And some of those family connections, along with a fat piles of lobbying cash, may have played a role in greasing the skids with Federal regulators. So just how many tips did the SEC get about the Madoff investment house without acting? More than a few, it seems. The commission is getting downright reflective on their Madoff connections. Here's the mea culpa from Chris Cox himself.
